The eyelids consist of layers of skin, muscle and fat from the outside in. With the effect of genetic factors, age and environmental factors such as sunlight, the eyelid skin loses its elasticity and relaxes. The muscular layer under the skin also relaxes and begins to fall and give in due to gravity. The fat pads, which have a deeper plan and usually give the eyelids a fuller and more lively appearance, also begin to herniate. In this way the sagging of the eyelids and the bagging occurs.
If there is a drop in the eyelids, the excess skin on the upper eyelids becomes more pronounced. The makeup on the eyelid disappears under the excess skin fold. In advanced cases, excess upper eyelid can reach dimensions that make vision difficult.
How is the aesthetics of the eyelid performed ?
The aesthetics of the eyelids are usually performed under local anesthesia and when the person is sleeping deeply, but general anesthesia may be preferred when necessary. The skin incisions are designed to adapt to the curvature of the upper eyelid, while the lower eyelid uses incisions made immediately below the eyelashes so that the marks are hidden invisibly. In cases where there is no excess skin and, therefore, only the bagging should be corrected, the aesthetics of the bag or the removal of the eyelid bag can be performed with incisions from the inner surface of the lower eyelid. Your surgeon will explain what is the right certainty for you. The operating times may vary, but both sides are 2.5 hours for the upper and lower covers and 1.5 hours only for the lower or upper covers.
